I just completed reading A Child of Hitler by Alfons Heck, the other book I borrowed from the library for my research. In this book, the author led the reader into the life of a “Hitler Youth fanatic”, a perspective that is not commonly explored. After reading this book, I am personally appalled at the fact that so many young men and women had their childhoods taken away from them and were tricked into cold hearted killing, believing they were doing the right thing. I think that was one of the most shocking parts of the Holocaust, the fact that children, as young as 8, were killing people and were not only taught how to do those tremendous acts, but were being encouraged to perform them.
Like with the previous book I read, I have put sticky notes on all the crucial facts or anything that I think would come in handy.
The next step in my assessment task is to continue my research through the forms of audio-visuals and websites. Since I think I now have enough information on the events of the Holocaust, due to the books and previous knowledge, I will look further into the poets and how they were affected.
